Pioneer announce new DJM-5000 ‘mobile DJ mixer’

PIONEER’S DJM-5000 IS WORLD’S FIRST 96KHZ/24-BIT DJ MIXER WITH DEDICATED ZONE OUTPUT, ADVANCED TALK OVER, SOUND CARD AND BUILT-IN SOUND MAXIMIZER

Pioneer knows mobile DJs need more these days: more flexibility, more compatibility, more possibilities and more punch. These requirements are now met by the latest addition to the trusted DJM mixer family – the DJM-5000. This four-channel mixer today launches with several standout innovations that place a premium on DJ dynamism, usability and professional style.

The ideal companion for Pioneer’s MEP-7000 media player, the DJM-5000 delivers 96kHz/24-bit sound and is also fully MIDI-enabled. Its built-in sound card for the laptop DJ guarantees quick and convenient PC/Mac connectivity, while three microphone channels together with four mic effects and an Advanced talk over application allow meticulous control over MCs, announcements and vocals. It also offers a dedicated Master/Zone output facility, enabling one DJ to manage two separate outputs across two different locations. Adding to its knockout credentials, the DJM-5000 includes a new Sound Maximizer function that boosts EQ dynamics to suit play in any environment and breathe new life into MP3’s.

KEY FEATURES
96kHz/24-bit unbeatable studio quality digital audio
Borrowing its technology from the DJM-1000, the analogue signal from the media player is digitised at 96kHz/24-bit, so it reaches the digital mixing stage in the best possible state. Mixing is then carried out by 32-bit digital signal processing with minimal deterioration of sound quality.

Three-way USB audio interface permits direct input from a PC*
There is no excessive wiring, no extra sound card and no nonsense. Since the mixer employs a six-channel (three stereo pair) USB audio interface, it’s possible to play music directly from a PC via the USB connection – without the need for an additional external sound card.
* Compatible with Windows and Mac. Three stereo outputs can be assigned under Windows only when used with ASIO compliant software.

Master/Zone output allows one mixer to manage two areas
The DJM-5000 features two independent output systems, enabling separate music to be sent to two different areas. For example, one mixer can be the nerve centre for high-energy dance music on the main dancefloor and also play more chilled beats in the lounge. The microphone output can also be selected to transmit individually, so that announcements, MC or vocal performances can be tailored specifically to each zone.

Three easy-to-use microphone channels are honed for improved performance. Two of the inputs have independent microphone channel systems, and volume and three-band EQ can be controlled separately for each. Channel 1 of the DJ section can also be used for mic input, complete with three-band EQ. For extra adjustment of MCs or vocals, four key mic effects are included: Reverb, Echo+Verb, Octaver and Pitch. In addition, the send/return terminals, which are the same as on the DJM-800, present the possibility for yet more connectivity and effects.

Industry-first** Advanced talk over feature
The DJM-5000 offers two types of talk over, with a knob to adjust the ducking level. The advanced talk over function makes it easier to hear exactly what is being communicated over the microphone without reducing the volume of the music. Normal talk over automatically lowers the level of the music across the full frequency, which means an overall drop in volume. However, with Advanced talk over only the mid-range frequency band is lowered. This allows DJs, MCs and vocalists to proceed smoothly without detracting from the atmosphere that has been built in the room.

Sound Maximizer boosts EQ, in accordance with the environment
The Sound Maximizer makes it easy to optimise the audio to suit the venue. This is done via two rotary knobs: 1) Dynamics, which boosts the low range for a richer, stronger sound, and 2) Clarity, which improves the general sense of separation and emphasises the mid-high range for a crisper, clearer sound, even at lower volumes.

Fully Assignable USB-MIDI function for connectivity and software control
61 different knobs and buttons on the DJM-5000 can transmit control data via MIDI signal over a single USB connection with your PC to any MIDI-mapable DJ software. As such, the mixer can also be used as a MIDI controller to advance flexibility and control.

Denon DJ announces new toys

Word on the web is that Denon plan to unleach no less than 8 new products at  PLASA09 in September.

From what I can tell they will be launching the following new items of kit:

• DN-V500BD blu-ray disc player
• DN-S700 CD/MP3 player
• DN-HC5000 and HC1000S media controllers
• DN-HP500 headphones
• DN-X1700 digital mixer.

In addition to this they will also be showing the DN-F Series of solid state audio players (comprising the DN-F300, DN-F400 and RC-F400) these have already been unveiled to the public at Infocoom 2009

The DN-F3/400 are solid-state audio players with both units able to read MP3 files and uncompressed WAV files from SD or SDHC cards (the DN-F300 reads from USB drives as well).

Housed in a compact 1U-rackspace enclosure, the DN-F300 looks to be a serious rival to other similar devices that we’ve already seen come onto the market place from the likes of American DJ.

It also has IR control and a microphone input, making it a good selection for fitness and dance applications as well as background music playback. Additionally, the mic input has music ducking, which helps for paging in BGM applications, and it also features ±12% pitch control.

While the DN-F400 occupies a 2u rack space and offers many more features it is the DN-F300 that I expect to find in the mobile DJs arsenal in the comming months.

The RC-F400 remote controller also looks pretty cool, featuring a large LCD display. The remote adds to the DN-F400’s capability by providing an ergonomically designed, intuitive control unit for instant playback of audio or audio elements (sound effects) via its hot-buttons.

Returning to the other units:

PLASA marks the worldwide launch of the DN-V500BD. The first blu-ray disc player for professional applications. From the information being reported I think this is more like the DN-F400, featuring Blu-Ray video capability.

The DN-S700 is a new entry level compact tabletop CD/MP3 player sporting many features from Denon’s flagship professional models, including advanced MP3 functionality for easy file search and selection, CD text display, auto or manual BPM, 3 onboard FX, 3 pitch ranges, 2 hot start and loop controls, fader start, and pitch bend available on buttons and jog wheel to enhance performance creativity.

The DN-HC5000 is a rackmount digital DJ system developed to work with Serato’s ITCH software. Benefiting from Serato’s HIDI technology to improve speed and software/hardware communication, the DN-HC5000 is a USB 2.0 MIDI controller with built-in 24-bit soundcard, compatible for use with both PC and MAC. Features include a multi-functional touch sensitive jog disc, vibrant FL tube and text display, and tactile rubber controls.

The new rackmount DN-HC1000S is a MIDI sub controller designed to interface with Serato Scratch LIVE. The unit offers simple plug ‘n play operation via USB connectivity, and replaces the cumbersome PC keyboard with a set of dedicated controls, including track select and fast search, SHIFT/CLR button, 5 ‘hot start’ and 3 sampler buttons, auto loop, Loop IN-OUT with exit/reloop, history and a TAP button.

The DN-HP500’s are new entry-level DJ headphones with 1300mW input power, 40mm driver, 40 ohms impedence, 103dB output, 10-28kHz frequency response, 90 degree swivel mechanism, with comfortable ear pad and headband for prolonged periods of use.

Like the The DN-F300 and 400 more information is already circulating about the DN-X1700 .

It is a 4-channel tabletop mixer with rubberised knobs, 60mm Alps K Series channel faders, 45mm FLEX cross fader, a color LCD display, extended 24-point LED channel and output metering, and LED ring metering around the control knobs. In operation, the principal features related to the power and flexibility of the Denon DNX1700 mixer are its Matrix Input Assignment with digital input and MIDI/USB audio, independent and parametric three-band EQ with Kill on each channel, and dual independent EFX processors. Its 32-bit floating point DSP engine provides exceptional processing power and the mixer delivers impressive sound resolution via its 32-bit digital-analogue conversion capabilities at the audio output stage.
